Spicers financial freedom winner gifts $10,000 prize to The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ

Lei-Anne Gabi, winner of the $10,000 Spicers Portfolio Management ‘Share your idea of Financial Freedom’ competition, has done the most altruistic thing and gifted her prize to The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ.

Not expecting to win, or realising that she may even have a chance, Ms Gabi entered the competition in September by sharing her idea of financial freedom.

However, when presented with the news that she would be receiving a windfall of $10,000 she immediately thought that there were people more deserving than her.

“Growing up I was taught a lot about sharing,” said Ms Gabi. “I have enough for my day-to-day needs. I’m still working, I have a roof over my head, and food on my table.”“I believe that eyesight is one of the most important things in life. I initially thought that I could use the money to go on a lovely holiday, or sharing the money with my family, but I then thought about the people that could benefit from this money and give them the gift of sight. It gives me a kick to know I’m doing some good for other people,” said Ms Gabi.

Managing Director of Spicers, Chris White commented that generosity like this is seldom seen and was a real surprise to us. “When Lei-Anne mentioned that she would like to gift her prize to the Fred Hollows Foundation I was truly amazed and touched by her gesture. There is so much you could do with $10,000, however gifting it to help to provide others with sight is wonderful.”

Executive Director of The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ, Andrew Bell noted that the effects of this charitable gift would be far-reaching

“We’re incredibly grateful to Lei-Anne for such a selfless and generous act. Her donation will transform the lives of many, many needlessly blind people and their families across the Pacific region. Thank you Lei-Anne.”

Whatever your idea of financial freedom,we can help keep your vision on track. Contact your Spicers Adviser, or call 0800 102 100 to arrange a free, no-obligation meeting. Eligibility criteria apply.
