Established in 1987, Spicers is one of New Zealand's most respected financial planning and investment companies. We offer the straight forward retirement planning and financial advice NZ investors need to achieve financial freedom. Currently we have more than $1.3 billion of funds under advice, indicating the high regard in which we are held.

Central to our success is our team of advisers backed by an extensive group of market, product and research professionals. They work together to ensure every client receives appropriate recommendations, backed by the latest market research and analysis.

Mark has spent the last twenty years in the financial services industry, undertaking senior roles across most business disciplines including financial advice, marketing, customer services and strategy. Mark is also the Chief Executive Officer of a complementary financial advice business called AdviceFirst that has AMP as its majority shareholder. Mark has a First Class Honours Degree in Business Studies from Massey University.

Georgie Miles

During her 15 + years’ experience in the finance and insurance industry, Georgie’s key focus has been developing strong support infrastructures to allow businesses to grow. She has a background in CRM implementations and process improvements including Six Sigma implementation.

As the Chief Operating Officer for both Spicers, and our complementary financial advice business AdviceFirst, Georgie provides stable and fit for purpose operational support across IT, facilities, compliance, reporting and customer services. Her responsibilities include implementing short-term initiatives, as well as managing the development, implementation and tracking of longer-term strategic goals.

Geoff Barrell
Regional Sales Manager Northern


Geoff is the Northern Regional Sales Manager for both Spicers and AdviceFirst.

Geoff is also an Authorised Financial Adviser who has spent the last 30 year’s working in the financial services industry. He helps individual and business clients with investment, insurance and succession planning needs. 

Geoff is a member of the Institute of Financial Advisers and Estate Planning Council of New Zealand and was the Ex-president of the AXA Advisers’ Association.

Regional Sales Manager Central North Island


As well as being the Regional Sales Manager for our Central North Island offices Brent is a Financial Adviser with our complementary financial advice business AdviceFirst, of which he was a founding partner.

Brent is an Authorised Financial Adviser specialising in wealth management for individuals and business owners. He has over 30 years’ experience in the financial industry and for the past 14 years’ he has been helping clients to gain their financial freedom through his knowledge of wealth management. 

As a qualified Chartered Accountant with top-level qualifications Brent has been a member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants for 25 years and is currently a member of both the Institute of Financial Advisers and New Zealand Society of Accountants.

As well as holding an Adviser role with Spicers, Neil is the Regional Manager for the Canterbury area for both Spicers and AdviceFirst.

Neil has over 20 years’ experience in the financial industry, 10 of which were spend in London working in trading roles before moving to New Zealand, and he holds an Honours Degree in Economics from Manchester University and is a certified member of the Institute of Finance Professionals in New Zealand.

With an extensive marketing career from the private and public sectors, in both product and service based marketing, Shelley joined the financial services industry in 2015.  Shelley creates and delivers strategic and operational marketing and communications campaigns and initiatives for Spicers and AdviceFirst.

Shelley holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration Degree in Marketing and Management and was awarded the Certificate in Marketing Management with merit from the Marketing Association.

As well as the being the Chairman of the Spicers Board Peter is also an Authorised Financial Adviser and Director with our complementary financial advice business AdviceFirst, of which he was a founding partner. Prior to this Peter successfully founded Wellington financial advice firm Cameron Chote. 

Peter has over 25 years’ experience in the financial industry and is an expert in all areas of financial planning and investment for individuals, families and business owners.

Our advisers

The capability of our investment advisers is everything to us, because our business is centred on providing the best-possible financial advice. This means becoming a Spicers adviser isn’t easy. Not only are specific qualifications required, but they must be accompanied by a proven and successful track record. And at no point are our advisers allowed to rest on their laurels. They must continually keep their skills sharp with regular education and training.

Our advisers live throughout New Zealand, so you can usually find somebody in your community. Once you’ve identified the adviser you would like to work with, you can expect him or her to take the time to listen and fully understand your needs and goals before putting forward any recommendations.

All Spicers advisers have attained Authorised Financial Adviser registration and are required to abide by the Code of Conduct described in the Financial Adviser Act 2008. Our authorised financial advisers are supported by a nationwide network of client service managers and para planners, so there is always somebody available to help you. 

QFE status

Spicers Portfolio Management has been granted Qualifying Financial Entity (QFE) status by the Financial Markets Authority (formerly the Securities Commission). QFE status is part of the Financial Advisers Act 2008 (FAA), which came into force on 1 July 2011.

This means Spicers takes full responsibility for financial advice provided by all of our employees and contractors.

The FAA sets new professional standards for financial advisers and gives the Financial Markets Authority power to regulate people and entities who give financial advice.

As well as operating under Spicers QFE umbrella, all Spicers’ advisers are Authorised Financial Advisers.
