Professional advice in a time of need
23 February 2012
Earlier this week, Spicers Adviser Jeremy Simpson became the first Authorised Financial Adviser to participate in a new pro-bono financial advice service in Canterbury, established by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority and the Commission for Financial Literacy and Retirement Income.
Together with his colleagues in Spicers’ Christchurch office, and other Canterbury advisers, Jeremy has stepped forward to provide objective and considered advice for Christchurch Red Zone residents who are facing significant financial challenges at present.
The concept of pro-bono service, or service “for the public good”, is something that many professionals around the world are willing to provide when there are clearly identified social needs, and a lack of publicly available professional resources to meet them. Recent events in the Christchurch region have created unique financial issues that many would not have remotely considered facing in their lifetimes, and a plea for help in understanding how to resolve them.
Spicers is a central part of Christchurch’s commercial fabric, this year celebrating 25 years of professional service to the people of Canterbury. I’m humbled that our local team have willingly stepped forward, at their cost, to provide this service to Christchurch. And I’m pleased that in their time of need, Red Zone residents can access professional advice to assist in their planning for the future.
